What Does it Cost?

Tuition for online classes (also called distance education, or DE) at NC State University is calculated by the number of credit hours taken.

Microbiology Online lecture courses (MB 200, MB 351, MB 411, MB 441, MB 461 and MB 451) are 3 credit hours each. The external learning experience (MB 492) and special problems in microbiology (MB 493) are offered for 1-3 credit hours, depending on the specific needs of individual students.

2018-2019 tuition and fees for a 3 credit hour online course will be $710.64 for North Carolina residents.

Completion of the Microbiology Undergraduate Certificate requires 12 credit hours of qualifying classes, of which at least 9 credit hours must be taken at NC State University.

At 2018-2019 rates for tuition and fees, the cost to complete the certificate ranges between:

  • $2,131.92 (for a North Carolina resident who is awarded 3 hours of transfer credit)
  • $10,678.56 (for a non-resident who takes all required courses on campus at NCSU)
